About the Artists

Steve Goldband and Ellen Konar are photographic artists working in dynamic collaboration.  Rooted in their backgrounds in psychology and technology, their work investigates how we perceive meaning in the physical world.  Rather than document, they distill environments into allegorical patterns, finding symbolic frameworks and hidden meanings.  Juxtaposing the intimate and the monumental, past and present, nature and human intervention, they gently entice viewers to reflect on nature's continual transformation and resilience.  Viewers, not the photographers, construct their own order and emotional connection out of the seeming endless chaos of the 21st century world.  

Their projects have appeared at iconic galleries and museums in the U.S and abroad including The Center for Photographic Arts, Carmel, CA, The Griffin Museum of Photography, Boston, MA, The Triton Museum of Art, Santa Clara, CA,  Soho Photo Gallery, NYC, The Berkeley Art Center, Berkeley CA, The Gray Loft Gallery, Oakland, CA, The Awagami Museum, Tokyo, JA and in editions of Lenswork Magazine, All About Photo, Seeing in Sixes, Dodho and Beta. Recently selected for the Critical Mass top 50, their work has received awards from the Triton Museum, Center for Photographic Art, and the Awagami International Museum.  Steve and Ellen received PhD's in Psychology and were contributors to the emergence of the digital age during their work at tech giants including Apple, Intel, and Google as well as a host of start-up ventures.
